Zsuzsanna Farkas, MSc student of biology / plant biology at the Loránd Eötvös University, submitted (in Hungarian) her MSc thesis entitled "Regeneration of iron-, manganese- and zinc deficient plants via nanoferrite colloid suspension" ("Vas-, mangán- és cinkhiányos növények regenerációja nanoferrit kolloid-szuszpenzióval") in 2017. The work was supervised by Prof. Ferenc Fodor, head of the department of Plant Physiology and Molecular Plant Biology, Loránd Eötvös University, Budapest, Hungary.

The thesis investigates the effects of Fe, Mn and Zn deficiencies on cucumber plants, and then studies the effects of Mn-Zn ferrite nanoparticle suspension on the regeneration of plants grown under Fe, Mn and Zn deficient conditions, considering also the effect of pH of the nutrient solution. One of the interesting findings of the work is that the treatment of Fe-deficient plants grown in acidic solution resulted in a significant degree of improvement, in every measured parameter of the plant. As a result of treatment with Mn-Zn ferrite nanoparticle suspension, Mn and Zn deficient plants have also shown signs of regeneration. The uptake of Fe, Mn and Zn by the plant from the nanoparticle suspension could be confirmed.

Financial support for the experiments was provided by the National Research, Development and Innovation Office - NKFIH/OTKA (K115913 and K115784).
