Fruzsina Pankaczi, MSc student of biology / plant biology at the Loránd Eötvös University, submitted (in Hungarian) her MSc thesis entitled "Investigation of Possible Toxicity of Nanomaterials in Plants" ("Nanoanyagok lehetséges toxikusságának vizsgálata növényeken") in 2017. The work was supervised by Prof. Ferenc Fodor, head of the department of Plant Physiology and Molecular Plant Biology, Loránd Eötvös University, Budapest, Hungary.
The thesis investigates toxicity of several potential nanofertilizer substrates, manganese zinc ferrites and ferrihydrite, by applying them in excessive doses on cucumber and wheat model plants. One of the interesting findings of the work is that nanomaterials applied in excessive amounts were found to be less toxic to plants, than the same amount of micronutrients applied in the form of ordinary chemicals.
Financial support for the experiments was provided by the National Research, Development and Innovation Office - NKFIH/OTKA (K115913 and K115784).
